Connect your Docking Station

Your Docking Station needs two things: power and an internet connection.

Power it up

Plug the micro-USB side of the provided cable into the port on the back of the Docking Station, and the other end into the included power adapter. Plug the power adapter into an electrical socket.

When the Docking Station is correctly powered on, the LED next to the micro-USB port on the back of the Docking Station will switch on.

The LED next to the USB port on the back of the Docking Station provides more information on the status of the Docking Station.

  • Only use your Byteflies Kit with the provided cable and power adapter!
  • You should have received a power adapter that is compatible with your country’s electrical socket. If that is not the case, please contact us.

Connect it to the Cloud

The connect your Docking Station to the internet, you will need the password of your home WiFi network. Once you have that, complete the following steps:

  1. Press the reset button at the back of the Docking Station with a pen or paperclip for 3 seconds until the LED starts blinking red to activate WiFi pairing mode (see illustration above to find the reset button).
  2. From any WiFi connected personal device, go to the list of available WiFi networks* and look for one named Byteflies Dock-xxxxxxxxxxxx and connect to it (xx... will be replaced by letters and numbers identifying your Docking Station)
  3. Your browser will open and display a page with available WiFi networks.
  4. Find your personal WiFi network, click the CONNECT button, enter your WiFi password in the pop-up window. You can use the to show your password. When done typing, click CONNECT again. The pop-up window will close when the connection has been made. If the connection fails, you will see an error message.
  5. The “WiFi Status” message at the top of the page should change from Not Connected to Connected to "your WiFi" (where "your WiFi" is the name of your home WiFi network).
  6. If this message does not appear after about 1 minute, please try again and make sure you are entering the correct password for your WiFi network.
  7. Connect your personal device back to your home WiFi network (if you wait one minute after a successful connection, the browser window will close and reconnection to your own network should happen automatically).
  8. If the Docking Station successfully connected to the internet, the LED (see illustration above) will turn blue. Once it is talking to the Byteflies Cloud, the LED will turn green so it is possible you never see the LED turn blue.

*To connect to a WiFi network, follow these instructions:

If the device from which you are trying to connect to the Docking Station has another active internet connection (for instance a wired or mobile connection), please disable these first before attempting to connect to Byteflies Dock-xx... network. Otherwise, the Byteflies portal page may not open.

Check the Status of your Sensor Dot(s)

Place all your Sensor Dots on the Docking Station. Their LEDs should activate as shown below. If the LED does not turn on after a few seconds or if it is red, contact support as soon as possible and do not use that Sensor Dot.

  • Contact your healthcare provider or Byteflies support if you have trouble connecting your Docking Station (the LED does not turn green).
  • Stop using a Sensor Dot if its LED does not turn on or is red and contact your healthcare provider or Byteflies support as soon as possible.

Apply the Sensor Patch

Your healthcare provider should have explained to you what they are interested in recording and how you should apply your Sensor Dot(s), cradle(s), and adhesive(s). Below, a limited number of frequently used configurations are explained in more detail but it is possible you were asked to follow specific instructions. If that is the case, please refer to that documentation.

  • As with everything that needs to stick to your skin, make sure the area where you are planning to place an adhesive component is clean, dry, and free of excess body hair.
  • Never apply any of the provided adhesives to injured skin. Adhesives should only be used on areas of intact external skin that are large enough to support the entire surface area of the adhesive.

The following symbols are used to explain assembly steps:

Magnetic connection
Adhesive, peel off protective liner and apply
Connect snap buttons

To apply a Cradle Adhesive:

  1. Peel the adhesive off the plastic liner and firmly press the Cradle on to the exposed sticky pad.
  2. Peel the liner off the other side and apply to your skin as instructed by your healthcare provider.

In the illustration, a 4-wire Cradle is shown as an example but the same procedure applies to the Motion Patch.

Start or Continue a Recording

Before you continue, make sure your:

  • Patch(es) (cradles & adhesives) are correctly applied (see higher)
  • The Docking Station is powered on, connected, and the docked Sensor Dots show a solid green LED (see higher)

Starting a recording is as simple as taking the Sensor Dot out of the Docking Station and placing it in the Sensor Patch. A single Sensor Dot should last for at least 24 hours. Depending on how long your healthcare provider instructed you to record data, follow these steps (the numbers correspond to the illustration below):

  1. Take a Sensor Dot with a solid green LED out of the Docking Station.
  2. Place it in the Sensor Patch which should already be affixed to your body as explained earlier.
  3. Record for up to 24 hours (or as long as your healthcare provider indicated).
  4. Take the Sensor Dot out of the Sensor Patch and place it back in any free slot on the Docking Station; the LED will turn orange to indicate the recorded data is being transferred.
  5. Repeat with a new Sensor Dot to continue recording.
  6. If, after transferring their recordings, one or more Sensor Dots need to be switched off, e.g. for transport, this can be achieved by unplugging the Docking Station from the power socket. The LEDs of the docked Sensor Dots will switch off, indicating a shutdown.

Note that Sensor Patches typically can stay on longer than 24 hours before needing to be refreshed. Follow the instructions of your healthcare provider. When in doubt, contact them or Byteflies support.

When a Sensor Dot is out of the Docking Station, its LED can mean the following:

LED patterns for undocked Sensor Dots.

  • Stop using a Sensor Dot if its LED does not turn on or is red and contact your healthcare provider or Byteflies support as soon as possible.
  • Do not shower or bathe with a Sensor Dot!
  • If your healthcare provider provided you with specific instructions on showering/bathing, follow those instead. You still should never shower or bathe with a Sensor Dot in a Sensor Patch.

Power Down

It is safe to unplug a Docking Station at any time. All Sensor Dots docked in the Docking Station will also power off. If a recording was being transferred, it will not be lost but the transfer process will have to start again once the Docking Station is powered on. To turn the Docking Station and Sensor Dots back on, simply plug the power adapter back in an outlet. If the WiFi network that was set up earlier is still in range, the connection to the Byteflies Cloud will be restored as well.

If you want to connect your Docking Station to a new WiFi network, follow the connection instructions again.
